Check out this video recorded on Wednesday 18th March 2020 from Sheikh Babikir giving general, useful, sensible, practical advice to the community on how to deal with the Corona crisis.

Note, this video begins with the Sheikh, and he then continues from minute 28:45

It’s a relatively short video but it contains a lot of little gems. He shares some advice on how to best deal with the Corona outbreak and precautions we can take to not infect others.
Here are a few of my big take-aways:
  • One person due to uncleanliness, lack of isolation, going out or unnecessarily going to congregational prayers, could be responsible for deaths of thousands of innocents. By following the NHS guidelines, you’re also following the divine guidance designed to protect others from what you might be carrying
  • If you do go to the mosque for some reason, take your own prayer mat and perform ablutions at home… and don’t even think about it if you’ve coughed or sneezed in the last day! (NOTE: most mosques are likely closed by now, and if they’re not, they certainly should be! Many countries like Saudi & others have shut down all mosques and have even closed the Haramain mosques for thorough cleaning during the night, for the first time ever).
  • The true sunnah way to wash your hands 3 times during wudu is exactly the recommendation being given by the NHS. Follow it. (The shaykh demonstrates this in the video)
  • Washing your nose & mouth during wudu (ablutions) makes perfect sense given that the virus spreads through coughs & sneezes.
  • Hoarding food stocks and household goods is the absolute antithesis of what any believer should be doing. It shows lack of faith. We are meant to “wish for our brothers what we wish for ourselves”. You like toilet paper? Let others buy it too!
A personal recommendation from me:
You likely can’t and shouldn’t go to Friday prayer today. However, make sure you get at least a weekly dose of spiritual nourishment. One of the wonders of our age is that we can have instant video access to some of the best Islamic teachers & courses in the world.
