I’ve finally decided to jump in the deep end. I’ve spent far too long helping people do their hifz using Quran Coaching for me to sit on the side lines any longer. And the really great news is – you’ll get to learn from every single mistake I’ll make along the way.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always been very intimidated by the goal of memorising the Quran. I mean, it’s a really big book! And even though I’ve coached people on this very subject, and even though I know all the self-motivation techniques in the book, up until now, I’ve still been holding back – for a number of reasons.

Why it took me so long to start doing hifz…

The chances are it took me so long to get started for the same reasons you haven’t started yet (have you?) 😉 The real reason is that it takes a lot of hard work, determination and effort every single day, and you have to wait for years before you get the result you want – being a hafiz. Or do you?

Why I finally made the decided to become a hafiz…

And those factors are still true, but something important changed in my mind-set, when I told my coach about this goal (yep, I have a coach – and yes, you should look into it). I realised that the same emotional highs & lows I’m going to feel when I start my hifz plan are the exact same emotional highs and lows I’ll have when I’m 16 juz in, and they’re still the same emotional highs and lows I’ll have when I’m on my last 2 pages.

So, if I can get through my first 2 pages, I’ll need to give myself all of the positive joy & success feelings I expect to have when I’m on my last 2 pages. And the Quran makes this very easy for us. I mean…

Have you ever had the experience of feeling deeply connected to Allah (swt) when you suddenly understood a meaning of an ayah that resonates with you? Or have you ever felt a deep love in your heart when you learnt to recite a couple of pages of Quran with accurate tajweed, and it instilled you with a sense of tranquility? Allah made the Quran easy for us, and if we put the effort in, Allah has already prepared the ‘spiritual buzz’ rewards. All we need to do is allow ourselves to feel them.

And the only thing that can get in our way is the same thing that has been getting in our way up until now – our own naffs. And I thank mine for it’s opinions (in the form of negative self-talk), and say ‘bismillah’.

My journey has begun.

I deeply appreciate your duas. Perhaps the only thing that I need to achieve this goal is one more dua from you.

I’ll be blogging about the journey and giving you all the ideas and tips I have, as well as my specific plan, which I’ll break down for you step by step & then tell you which parts worked the best, and which parts you can tweak yourself to get the best results.
