Let’s start today with a question from a Subscriber…

Question:

“Salam, I have been reading your emails for a while And think they’re great, masha’Allah. I had a question…

You talk about the concept of knowing you are already good enough and already connected to Allah.

I don’t know how to balance this with the constant idea that we should be improving ourselves, fulfilling our potential, and that we haven’t worked to our full potential yet. Could you explain this please? ”

Mamoon:

Salam! I’m honoured to know you’ve been enjoying our emails. This is a really great question, mA.

Here’s how it looks to me…

The biggest, sneakiest trick the nafs plays is to convince you that you aren’t good enough, just the way you are.

That there’s somewhere to get to, and “there” is better than “here” and to get “there”, you need to be better than you are, so you’d better get to work on “improving yourself”.

Your nafs-thoughts want you to believe that only when you achieve an imaginary level of perfection, then you’ll have reached the goal.

But the goal is be with Allah.

And you already are.

There is nowhere to get to.

You’re already here.

Pause.

Soak that in and say “Alhamdulillah”.

The 2nd Sneaky Trick your Nafs is playing is this…

Your outside-in nafs-thought wants you to think that if you believe you’re already enough (which you are), then you’ll stop working hard.

That’s a LIE.

You’ll work just the same, but now you’ll have a Spiritual Energy you’ve never known before, because you were too busy being trapped in the I’m-not-good-enough-yet-
illusion.

Here’s the TRUTH.

Your nafs wants you to believe that there’s actually a ‘Downside’ to being connected with Allah.

There isn’t.

If you want to permanently free yourself from ALL of the nafs-tricks that have been blocking your connection with Allah, and unleash the Spiritual Energy that’s been lurking deep inside of you all along…
